Local Mountain Folklore

When you reach the top of Taquitz peak, you really begin to understand whyThe San Jacinto mountain is so rich with traditional Indian folklore. According to an ancient Cahuilla legend, the massive peak you're standing on is a boulder rolled into place to capture an evil spirit after an epic battle with a good spirit, which formed much of the surrounding areas. When the thunder rolls through the mountains and valleys surrounding San Jacinto, legend tells us it's actually the evil spirit trying to get out of the cave it's trapped in by pushing the boulder away.
